Islamic greeting

The most common greeting in Arabic-speaking countries:

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمAs-salāmu ʿalaykum — "Peace be upon you"

Response: وَعَلَيْكُم السَّلَامWa ʿalaykum as-salām

Introducing yourself

Arabic Transliteration English
اسْمِي... Ismī... My name is...
أَنَا مِن... Anā min... I am from...
يَسْعَدُنِي بِمَعْرِفَتِك Yasʿadunī bimaʿrifatik Nice to meet you
كَمْ عُمْرُكَ؟ Kam ʿumruk? How old are you?
عُمْرِي... سَنَة ʿUmrī... sana I am ... years old

Ali: السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُم!
Sara: وَعَلَيْكُم السَّلَام! كَيْفَ حَالُكَ؟
Ali: بِخَيْر، شُكْرًا. اسْمِي عَلِي. وَأَنْتِ؟
Sara: اسْمِي سَارَة. يَسْعَدُنِي بِمَعْرِفَتِك!

Translation:

Ali: Peace be upon you!
Sara: And upon you peace! How are you?
Ali: Fine, thank you. My name is Ali. And you?
Sara: My name is Sara. Nice to meet you!
